CE meets representatives of Singapore’s Chinese community and business associations
MACAU, August 30 - The Chief Executive, Mr Sam Hou Fai, today visited the Singapore Chinese Chamber of Commerce & Industry, where he met with representatives from Singapore’s Chinese community and business associations to exchange views on enhancing economic and trade cooperation, as well as on deepening industrial collaboration across sectors and promoting synergistic development.
The Chief Executive is leading a Macao Special Administrative Region (MSAR) delegation comprising MSAR Government officials and representatives of business organisations on an eight-day official visit covering Singapore, Indonesia, and Malaysia.
In today’s meeting with Singapore’s Chinese community, Mr Sam noted that, under the strategic guidance of the leaders of China and Singapore, the comprehensive, high-quality, and forward-looking partnership between the two countries has in recent years continued to achieve progress. Macao and Singapore have also maintained close exchanges in the fields of tourism and conventions and exhibitions, as well as in trade, education, and culture, demonstrating significant potential for cooperation.
The Chief Executive highlighted that his ongoing journey is the second visit overseas by representatives of the current-term MSAR Government. The latest exercise has again brought together enterprises from Macao, Hengqin, and other places on the Chinese mainland on a “joint voyage” to explore overseas markets.
Mr Sam expressed hope that this would help establish a platform for enhanced collaboration between Macao and Singapore’s business and tourism sectors, further strengthening bilateral exchanges and enabling Macao better to integrate into, and serve, China’s overall development agenda.
The MSAR Government has recently issued the Third Five-Year Plan for Economic and Social Development of the MSAR (2026-2030), which actively aligns with China’s 15th Five-Year Plan. Via high-quality development of the Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin, Macao aims to expand its potential for development, while advancing appropriate economic diversification through four major projects.
The successful implementation of these initiatives will require the participation and support of international partners such as Singapore, added Mr Sam. Singapore possesses long-term experience in advanced high-tech industries, education and research, the digital economy, and healthcare. Macao has a unique advantage as a gateway connecting the vast Chinese mainland market with Portuguese-speaking countries. Singapore and Macao can build a complementary and mutually-beneficial partnership, he said.
Mr Sam urged leaders of Singapore’s Chinese community and business associations to seize opportunities, make full use of the Macao-Hengqin platform, and actively serve as bridges between the two sides. This was in order to deepen industrial collaboration between Macao and Singapore, facilitate resource alignment, and jointly create a new landscape of synergistic development, he said.
The President of the Singapore Chinese Chamber of Commerce & Industry, Mr Kho Choon Keng, welcomed the Chief Executive and his delegation to Singapore, and expressed appreciation for the opportunity to engage with those community and business leaders.
Mr Kho stated that Singapore’s business community highly values the broad cooperation opportunities offered by Macao and looks forward to working closely with the MSAR Government and Macao enterprises. By integrating the opportunities offered by the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) with those made available via the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, both sides could broaden their strategic outlook and pursue shared development, he noted. Macao and Singapore are world-class tourism hubs and have much to learn from each other. There is also strong potential for complementary benefits and collaboration in areas such as technological innovation and commercialisation, green and modern finance, and the modernisation of traditional industries, said Mr Kho.
Also present at the meeting were: the Chinese Ambassador to Singapore, Mr Cao Zhongming; the MSAR’s Secretary for Economy and Finance, Ms Ng Wai Han; the Chief-of-Office of the Chief Executive’s Office, Ms Chan Kak; and a number of representatives from Singapore’s Chinese community and business associations.
